Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Awarded $60k Labor Grant

Labor Grant Will Help Railroad Continue To Reinvest In The Community

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is pleased to announce that the railroad has been awarded a $60,000 Labor Grant from the Jobs That Build Employer fund that is managed by the Maryland Department of Labor. CEO and General Manager Wesley Heinz announced the railroad will use the grant for job retention to ensure the railroad’s current full-time employees remain in Allegany County. “(The WMSR Team) is made up of a lot of young people, individuals between 18-30,” Heinz said. “They’ve moved to this area and made it their home. It’s where they spend their payroll dollars. It is to incentivize them to stay in the community and to stay in the jobs and seek out additional education.”
