Don't let the season change pass you by — board the Springtime Steam Special and watch the Allegheny Mountains come alive from the comfort of a classic passenger car. Departing from Cumberland, Maryland, the journey climbs through budding forests and blooming hillsides all the way to Frostburg. Available in Coach and Lounge Class, with climate-controlled cars and onboard restrooms, it's a scenic spring escape for all ages. Please note: there is no layover in Frostburg on Springtime Steam Special excursions.
Same great ride, extraordinary power. The Springtime Steam Special is the Allegheny Winter Express — same route, menus, and classes of service — hauled by the 1309 steam locomotive for select weekends only this April.
“Brunch & Munch” Menu
Treat yourself to a freshly prepared meal as the spring scenery rolls by. Our onboard chef and crew prepare everything fresh, with options ranging from a full breakfast and seasonal fruit to soups, salads, and hot and cold sandwiches.
The Brunch & Munch menu is exclusively for Coach Class passengers. Lounge Class guests receive complimentary hors d'oeuvres throughout the journey.
Celebrate the season with a mimosa — our full-service bar is open to guests 21 and older.
Boarding begins approximately 30 minutes prior to departure.

Terms and Conditions
Ticket purchases are fully refundable up to two weeks before your excursion date. You can get in-house credit within two weeks but no refunds or credits will be given for day of cancellations or missed trains. If you cannot keep your original excursion date, an in-house credit will be held for a future excursion. The in-house credit will not expire.
Once you arrive you will receive boarding instructions. We ask that all guests arrive 45 minutes prior to departure.
All seating is assigned.
No outside alcohol is permitted.
No smoking or vaping is permitted.
We only allow service animals onboard our trains.
Western Maryland Scenic Railroad makes every effort to maintain its schedule. Due to mechanical and safety needs, we reserve the right to change equipment, locomotive, and passenger cars at any time.
