New York Central Grill-Diner 456
About the NYC Grill-Diner 456
The 456 was one of 18 grill-diners built by the New York Central in 1948 by Budd. The car has a seating capacity of 42, and also has a full kitchen which was updated by Penn Central in the 1970’s. The acquisition of this car was assisted by Tennesee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee and is currently awaiting restoration. The target date for this car to return to service is Spring 2025.
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is currently in the process of restoring #456
